Technical University in Sofia

The Technical University in Sofia opened its doors in 1942 and is considered to be the first higher technical school in Bulgaria.

It is the foundation of four different higher education institutions that exist today. These are the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the Institute of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and the Institute of Mineralogy and Geology.

For over 66 years the University prepares students in engineering. Up today, more than 100,000 engineers have graduated from it and found jobs in the professional sector, both in Bulgaria and abroad. The structure of the Sofia Technical University includes 14 schools, many departments, a college and other units, where students are trained scientifically.

Along with the instructions in Bulgarian, the University also offers a range of courses in German, English or French, and apart from the Bulgarian students, there are more than 1,400 foreign students studying at the University.

There are conditions for a rich and meaningful social life. The University has modern teaching facilities, libraries, student hostels, canteens, sports, Olympic-size pool, tennis courts and sports halls, beach houses and mountain recreation.

The Students Council is actively involved in useful and interesting activities. Through this body the students participate in the university administration and the protection of their interests, creating links with national agencies, and organizing cultural & sports events.

The Technical University of Sofia maintains close working relationships with more than 50 universities in Europe, Asia, North America and Africa. The University is a member of European and global organizations and participates in various projects within the EU, NATO and UNESCO. Due to the diversity and high quality of education it provides, as well as the research activities carried out by the Technical University of Sofia, it is one of the top universities in the joint educational and research area of the united Europe.

Upon the entrance of Bulgaria in the European Union as a full member, the above university program is recognized automatically by D.O.A.T.A.P. (former D.I.K.A.T.S.A.). Graduates can directly get a profession license in Greece or any other European country.

Those candidates who have the following certificates of English are accepted without exams:

1. CAE (Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English)
2. CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English)
3. IELTS (bands 6, 7, 8, 9)
4. PITMAN – Higher Intermediate – Advanced
5. TOEFEL (with a minimum of 550, 213 or 100 tons)

Sofia (Sofia) is the largest city and capital of Bulgaria with a population of about 1.4 million people.

Surrounded by a large park and situated in the western part of the country on the slopes of Mount Vitosha, it is the main administrative, industrial and transportation center of Bulgaria. With a history of more than seven millennia, as shown by many ruins, Sofia is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It is the main rail hub of Bulgaria and has eight railway stations. The airport Sofia is the largest in the country. There are many wide, paved avenues, and beautiful sights. Various cultural events take place in this city that hosts a significant number of Greek students, since it is just a few kilometers away from the northern border of our country.
