Medical University in Sofia

The Medical Faculty of the University of Sofia (Medical University of Sofia) is the largest and most historical Medical University in Bulgaria. It was founded in 1917 by the Czar Ferdinand I as a faculty of the Sofia University “St. Clement of Ochrid”. In 1950, it was seceded from the rest of the University and was converted into the form of Medical Academy with two faculties: Medicine and Dentistry. In 1951, the School of Pharmacy was founded and after a series of administrative reforms in 1995, the Academy became a Medical University. In 2001, the School of Public Health was founded. Since the academic year 2007-2008 English-speaking classes operate in the Medical School of the Medical University of Sofia, and from 2011-2012 in the Dental School.

Today, the Medical University of Sofia is internationally recognized as a particularly important university for health sciences and consists of four schools and an administrative section.

The Medical School is one of the most prestigious medical, educational and scientific centers in Bulgaria.

Various cultural events take place in this city that hosts a significant number of Greek students, since it is just a few kilometers away from the northern border of our country.
