Medical Specialties & Job Finding In Hospitals/Abroad

In recent years, there is usually a long wait to start a Medical Specialty in Greece, but especially for its second part, as there is some difficulty and limited career prospects. Thus, after completing the medical or dental studies, someone faces the dilemma either to return to Greece in order to carry out his/her specialization or choose a hospital or clinic abroad (mainly in Europe), where he/she may have a higher income, greater social recognition and more career prospects. The same thoughts come in the mind of several active doctors, who consider the idea of working abroad as a better career prospect.
Indeed, the number of new doctors choosing Europe to complete their specialization and work is constantly increasing, since the Medical Specialty in Europe is also favored by the integration and recognition status in all Member States of the European Union, in accordance with the European Directive 2005/36 / EC, with Articles 25-28 (of September 7, 2005). Under this directive, citizens of Member States of the European Union with a medical degree from a University within the European Union have the right to practice as doctors in another EU country, if they obtain the professional license from the competent state authority of the respective country.
With the Directive mentioned above, many different medical specialties are already recognized and the free movement of doctors and professional qualifications are determined. In Greece, the adaptation of the Greek Legislation to the provisions of the Community Directives was achieved with the Presidential Decree (P.D.) 38/2004.
