STUDENTS’ EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR POST-GRADUATION & PHD PROGRAMS
Due to the expansion of the education market worldwide and the enormous number of those who choose to continue their studies in
postgraduate level, specific evaluation criteria to choose the best candidates for their
postgraduate and
doctoral programs are applied by the universities, after the vacancy notice.
Although it is not possible to grade the severity of those
criteria to an absolute degree, each one has its own qualitative significance to the evaluation and affects it independently.
Statistically, it has been observed that universities appreciate:
- Past university education in an appropriate subject and the rating of relevant degrees (the grades of high school or nationwide examinations are taken less into consideration). The academic background is always examined.
- Reference letters (usually signed by teachers or employers)
- A Personal Statement referring to personal motivations and goals.
- Good knowledge of English language if it is an English-speaking program or the local language. (indicative certificates of knowledge of English language GCE, IELTS, TOEFL, Certificate of Proficiency, IB diploma)
- The interview (if specified in the internal rules of the departments).
- Written examination (if specified in the internal rules of the specific departments)
- Submission of a preliminary research proposal for admission to a doctoral degree course (if specified in the internal rules of the specific Department)
- The quality of the candidate's portfolio (content and appearance of the applications, translations, confirmations, etc.)
- Level of determination, thought and logic demonstrated by a GMAT certificate (if requested)
- Level of scientific thought and analysis proven by a GRE certificate (if requested)
- Completion of the military obligations.
- Other data for further support of the application (diplomas, awards, professional licenses, etc.)
